4 Confessions

Confessions from the Island of Misfit Toys

Recently I said that I felt like I belonged on the
Island of Misfit Toys (I'm a misfit). I felt obliged to share with you a few more confessions. I mean, confession is good for the soul, right?

#1 I love shows that make me cry, BUT only when no one is watching.

#2 I sing the car...LOUDLY. See, I used to sing loudly in my own house, back when I had one all to myself. One day I left my stereo up loud and went outside of that house for some errand my mom wanted me to do right now. I realized that I could still hear it quite well outside, and that meant when I thought I was singing to myself, I could still be heard outside. oops. At least there weren't any neighbors. My siblings came over some evenings when the music was up loud. But they know I sing loudly. All that practice made me halfway decent. But since I started living with others; college roommates, hubby, kids, I have not been in practice. I'm not so good now. :)
#3 I want to learn to dance. I had a best friend in middle school who taught me to dance, which was important to not feel AS awkward at the monthly middle school mixers we attended for fun. But I have not updated my moves since then. ..yeah. I want to BE the zumba girl, Confessions 2 and 3 are why I love the show Glee and watching musicals. I also used to dream of producing a stage show at my church with the youth and a selection of my favorite Christian songs.. too creepy? Sorry, I digress.

#4 I can't wear makeup. I never learned how! [Insert list of excuses here.] Thank you Covergirl for your step by step eyeshadow instructions on the box! I have a big ******* event (censored for secrecy) and I need to go practice now. I haven't gone through so much primping since prom! I had help for prom AND my wedding. Both times I felt like I was TOO made up. I can't even look at my prom pictures without shuddering. No offense to my friends, they were just excited to give me a make-over and inexperienced with my skin tone and color. They had to use what was available, as I do not come with my own make-up kit.

So I am off to preen and pluck and slather and brush and create and wash it all off and do it all over again.

Wish me
luck!

250th Post!

Today's post contains Art, pictures of Amish, a date, and a fire. Stay Tuned!

October Art Night: because I love fall and art.
The boys made trees out of construction paper. Drawing around their forearms and fingers for the trunk and branches, cutting red, yellow, and orange into confetti leaves, sounds fun, right?

Tribute to the manual dexterity of 3 and 7 year olds: Can You Guess Who did Which??
Later:

We went to the Covered Bridge Festival this year. The weather was like a desert, cold in the morning, dry, and hot in the afternoon. We went to a lot of yard sales, and waited in long lines of cars. My camera batteries died so you don't get to see the long lines. Yeah, I know you were longing to see lines of cars, or a jam-packed parking lot in someone's field, but hey, don't blame me. I'll share what pics I DID get though, so don't feel bad.

Here is a covered bridge, just for posterity. Here are two Amish pics I snapped with my zoom. Usually I don't see them, because they are busy with the harvest or selling goods, but this year they were out shopping too. Not these guys, they were hard at work in the fields.

This was lunch, the same lunch we get every year, and I hope they keep on serving it for years to come! mmmm.
While we were waiting in a exhaustingly long line of cars, I spied this awesome display of tiki bars. We want a tiki thing in our backyard, to decorate with pirate stuff. And now I know where to get one!
I bought some doll house furniture. Here it is in my dollhouse.

It is still going on now through next weekend, and if we decide it is worth it, we'll go out again.

But the best part of this weekend, was... NO KIDS! We haven't spent a childless weekend together in 4 over years.

It was nice. How nice?

This nice. Ahhhhh. Except I injured my knee and got stung by a wasp while we were out. :( Was it worth it? Well, even with the heat while wearing pants (bad choice) and the pain, yes, the day out with hubby was worth it. The boys were well cared for, and we could do anything, from see a movie, to have dinner when and where we wanted, or stay home. :)

Bitter? I am. But I got to see Bill Nye.

So much and so little has been done!
Firstly, we were able to visit the Street Festival downtown and see Bill Nye. We didn't stay long, the facilities were not optimal for viewing, especially for two little kids who didn't really understand a word he said. It was just awesome to see him!And my oldest really enjoyed playing musical instruments. As well as doing a little karate-chop action.

We went over to Cory to the Apple Festival, which hasn't changed much besides prices going up and up and up. I bought some clothes for the kids at a yard sale.

Meanwhile, my job search continued as I was told a prospective job was filled by transfer, another was an error in posting, and I realized that there are a lot of subs and not enough openings. More college graduates, more retired teachers becoming subs, and fewer teachers to fill in for.

Thing is, I can fill out all the applications I want, and score a few interviews (I haven't yet), but it still doesn't mean I will get a job.

So that leaves us scrounging for cash. We actually earn enough to pay all the bills in full and on time, but very little extra for food and gas. I don't qualify for unemployment, so we turned to state and federal assistance.

Only, that got very messed up, because the system is severely flawed in which the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. So we nearly went to a hearing over it, to straighten out their errors.

It's ridiculous that so many college degree holding citizens in this country; factory workers getting 40 hours a week and really good pay, teacher's aides, getting 20 - 30 hours and are still eligible for assistance, still under poverty level, raising their kids to have dreams and unrealistic expectations.

Bitter? I am.
